The Minister of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, Prof Marie Therese Abena Ondoa has told women to fight discrimination and violence.
She met with the women in Kribi on February 26, during a ceremony to launch commemorative activities to mark the 35th International Women’s Day.
Weeklong reflections for this year’s celebrations are centered on the theme “Promoting Gender and Protecting women’s rights by 2020: taking stock of actions undertaken, setting a new course”.
Women across the town who converged on the Kribi ceremonial ground agreed to work for the emancipation of the woman.
Crucial feminine issues were also discussed with young girls.
The women equally agreed that being financially autonomous is a key step to preventing discrimination and violence .
A central interest for participants was the evaluation of the Beijing platform of action, 25 years after its adoption.
Exhibition stands at the Kribi ceremonial ground portayed the women’s knowhow, especially women involved with fishing.
Commemorative activities continue nationwide till the commemoration of the International Women’s Day on Sunday, March 8, 2020.
